Spain is easy to get to from wherever you are in the UK or Ireland. Long the favourite hot spot for northern Europeans, this is where charter flights and the package holiday first flourished. Since then, millions have picked up a package to Spain, but independent travel is surging in popularity. And it's never been easier to reach Spain from regional airports, with seat-only deals on charter flights, a host of low-cost carriers, and full-frills fares tumbling too.

Rio Mar is easily found from Alicante (40 mins) and Murcia airport(15 mins). Although most of our guests fly to Alicante , new low cost carriers flying into Madrid (4½ hours) and Barcelona (5 hours) make this an inexpensive twin centre (City/Coast) option.

"As a very busy single mum with 2 children Henny and Hugh our trip from Bournemouth to Mil palmeras is so easy. It is quicker and more civilised for us than a trip to London. We visit on a regular basis in April and October when the temperature is just perfect. The apartments we have stayed in are all set up for our every need. It is great to have the pool on site and being only a short walk away from the very clean and safe beach we have never felt the need to venture elsewhere by hire car. All the restaurants and tapas bars we visit are friendly and welcome the children. The food is good, inexpensive and suits our various tastes. We feel very much a part of the local culture. It is the Perfect restful break for us all. "

P.S I also like the chineese restaurant as they balance champagne glasses at least 10 at once. Magic!

"I love it as I meet with a German friend. We are penfriends and I hope to visit her in Germany. The Bar Madrid (now Los celtas) is where I get spoilt by Suzie the waitress, she lets us go into the kitchen to choose our special ice cream dessert. "
